By: Angela Walker Finally — a “newspaper” textured hair stylists can wake up to.

When I was getting my mind right to become a business owner, I became a ferocious reader (still am, honestly).
Back then, I was consuming everything I could to prep for entrepreneurship.
One piece of advice I kept seeing was:
“Read articles related to your industry.”
And when I tell you I was lost… I mean that in more ways than one.
I couldn’t find a single site that just talked about textured, curly hair from an entrepreneur’s perspective.
Most natural hair platforms spoke to consumers. And when they did drop a piece for stylists or salon owners, it was surface-level at best — borderline insulting at worst.

So I started checking Inc.com, Forbes, tech blogs, and culture sites.
They had value, but none of them were speaking our language or even to us.
Almost two years ago, I had the idea to create a space where we could talk to each other.
Where we could:
Stay up on real trends in textured hair and not just TikTok moments
Celebrate the stylists doing brilliant work on celebrity heads
Share salon tools and tech that actually make our work better
And most importantly, hear from each other — salon owners, stylists, team builders, educators, creators.
That idea became Texture Experts.
Shortly after, I paused the project to help build something else our industry deeply needed:
The International Natural Hair Standards and Education Association — a nonprofit working to uphold professional standards in textured hair care around the globe.
Texture Experts played a huge role in helping shine a light on the need for it.
Now that INHSEA is on its feet,
Texture Experts is back to do what it was always meant to do.
So if you’re a stylist, salon owner, product creator, blogger, or an ally, this space is for you.
And if you have something to say to this industry - Join our writers team.
Let’s stay informed.
Let’s write in our voice.
Let’s build the textured hair industry’s first high-quality journal one article at a time.
The Gist: In “Texture Experts Rebooted,” Angela Walker announces the return of Texture Experts—a platform created to fill the gap in industry-focused content for textured hair professionals. Frustrated by the lack of meaningful resources for stylists and salon owners, Walker built a space to share real trends, tools, and voices from within the textured hair community. Now rebooted, the platform invites professionals to contribute and help shape the industry's first high-quality journal.
